Gawai Dayak Day is a festival celebrated in Sarawak on 1st June every year. It is a religious and social occasion. The celebration starts on the evening of 31 May.

Everyone in the long house works together to decorate the combined space of the long house that is called "ruai". The craft small logs to become a classic decoration a long the ruai. Bright and colourful cloth are also use to cheer up the large space.

All Dayak have their own traditional dance. the most popular dance is called "Ngajat". the dancers will dance gracefully with the traditional musical intruments such as "sape".

Besides that a beauty pageant contest or known as "Kumang Gawai" also be held as one of the important events. The beautiful and talented ladies will take part in this competition. Singing competition also make the Gawai festival merrier.

There are also have a lot of traditional delicacies prepared during this festival. The most delightful dishes is chicken pansoh. A part from that all the Dayak will having their special drink made of rice known as tuak.

As the conclusion, this festival reveals the Dayak's cultures and will be one of the attraction of the country.
